Caroline discovered a lifelong gift for piano at the age of 8, studying under the renowned Raymond Schutt, who himself began soloing piano with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14, and who taught with a concentration in music of the baroque, classical, and romantic periods. 

 

Through Raymond Schutt’s teaching style and Caroline’s piano talent, she auditioned and was invited to attend Brevard Music Center at the age of 17.

BIOGRAPHY

While in middle school, she began a small business of performing “light classical” piano music at events for friends and family, mostly featuring pieces by Chopin. (Nocturnes, preludes, and waltzes, were her favorites.) Caroline began studies as a Classical Music Major at Presbyterian College, where she received a music scholarship, and was in the top 3 considered recipients of the full Fuqua Scholarship. She also has a musical background in playing multiple percussion instruments in the wind ensemble at Presbyterian College, acoustic guitar, and singing/soloing in her church choir, performing in musicals, and in the handbell choir. Keys for Kids is more than just a business. It is Caroline’s love for music and children combined into fun and inspiration!

TEACHING METHODS

  • Pre-reading (a simplified way to express music notes) with constructive rhythm and basic music theory, together with fun musical games and activities. 

  • Middle C Method where students begin to learn finger numbering, hand placement, and how to read notes on a staff, ultimately sight-reading piano music.

  • Lessons are based on a traditional Middle C Method of teaching, and an eventual concentration on well-known pieces of music: Classical, stage and screen musicals, and fun pieces by pop artists chosen by the student makes piano playing as fun and well-rounded as possible.
